Welcome.

Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Baron, and this is my blog.

As you can infer from it’s title, I like big words. Big, Greek words. Even better, big, old, Greek words. The kind that most people aren’t familiar with, and that I can use to show off how erudite I am (please imagine the previous sentences coming back with a large dose of wry, half-mocking bravado). These large words allow me to lay claim to my “classical” education even though I make a living roaming the mean streets of the business world. That said, I’d guess that eudaimonia is something that most of us search for and try to attain. I think Aristotle’s manual on the good life (Nichomachean Ethics) had it just about right. The best life is filled with excellent activity, and the most excellent activity is the search for wisdom. However, the truly blessed life requires more. Not just excellence in activity/thought, but good fortune. The proverbial good things in life. Things that are physically pleasurable (good food, for example), and societally judged to be good (wealth, friends, family).

So, I’ll aim my blog at eudaimonia. I’ll tell you about the things that I find pleasurable, my search for wealth and family, and share the things that make me pause and pay attention to the well being of my inner self. Enjoy!

Kudos for your bend on Eudaimonia.I am an Oncology Nurse who never left sociology/philosophy class.Having said that I remained interested in the golden threads that bind me to higher intellect.I would be impressed to hear you speak of a morale virtue on how eudaimonia is acheived.I believe aristotle is correct in the factual sense that acheivment is through elite opportunity however I couch that when my spiritual side takes the panel.I tend to run on sentences apologies for any spelling errors as well.I want to read/here your sense on this i do not want my idea that eudaimonia can be acheived through personal happiness obfuscated.tell me more …….

    Hi Tammy,

Thanks for the comment. I’m not exactly sure that I follow. You seem to say that elite achievement is required for the good life. I’m not suggesting that. I’m saying the best life is a blend of good things – friends, family, wealth, etc. However, this does not mean elite opportunity is required (studies show that once you reach $40K or so in annual income, other things besides $ drive your level of happiness). I propose that having a positive outlook on life (attaining “moral virtue” as you say) is more important once your base needs have been met. What do you think?

LOVE (in pink, pink, pink letters) the new photo in your banner. The Taj Mahal in the mist, the monkey man sitting on his duff thinking, not thinking, preparing, not preparing.

…I just noticed the parallel imagery in your “Howdy” photo, too.

    Clever, clever Baron.
